Over time, iCopify buyers have reported this exact guest post scam. Some publishers move conversations off-platform and fail to deliver what they promised. How this guest post scam actually happens
This guest post scam uses a simple approach, which makes it easier for publishers to carry out. It usually follows the same steps:
- A publisher lists their website on iCopify. Instead of communicating through the platform, they contact the buyer using details from their website.
- They drop a subtle signal to move the conversation off-platform. For example, they may send an incomplete email address or URL. The buyer then contacts them separately, moving the conversation off the record.
- They offer a lower price to move the deal off-platform. They present it as a discount, but the buyer loses platform protection.
- Payment happens outside iCopify, with no contract, no escrow, and nothing either side can point back to later.
- The publisher makes the article live — then, days or weeks later, they quietly edit it, remove the link, or delete the entire post.
By that point, the buyer has no guarantee to point to and no one to escalate to, because the transaction never actually happened on iCopify — it just started there.
What we’re doing about this guest post scam

How to avoid a guest post scam right now
While we continue that work, here’s what actually protects you today:
- Keep every conversation inside iCopify’s messaging system. If a publisher asks you to email them directly or message them through their own site, that’s the moment to slow down.
- Never send payment outside the platform. This is the single biggest thing that removes your protection. If it’s not paid through iCopify, the live-link guarantee doesn’t apply to it.
- Watch for incomplete contact details sent your way — a broken email address or a malformed link is often a deliberate move to get you to reach out off-record.
- Be skeptical of a “direct deal” discount. A lower price off-platform isn’t a discount — it’s the cost of the guarantee, minus the guarantee.
- Report it. If a publisher tries to move you off-platform, tell us. It’s the fastest way we can act on individual bad actors, and it directly feeds the work we’re doing to catch this pattern earlier.
